Making Moves in 2014

We are 25 days into 2014! Time is certainly flying by.

Raise your hand if you are still keeping up with your New Year's Resolutions!!

No one? Okay....but why not?

Everyone is all about "New Year, New Me", but most of us abandon that mantra before the end of January. We decide it's too hard to make certain changes and we go back to our familiar lifestyles.

So, what is the problem?

I believe the goals we set for ourselves are too lofty and vague. Many of us want to "lose weight", "get healthy", or "be happy", but what does that mean? Until we make our goals quantifiable and we explicitly state what we want, we will get no where.

For example, I knew I wanted to write more this year. But, instead of just saying "I want to get paid writing gigs", I sat down and thought about how many times a week I want to write, how much time I wanted to spend, and how much I wanted to get paid for my skill set. I took it a step further and researched who I wanted to write for. And that is where my focus is.

Break your goals down as much as possible. I find it easier to make a weekly "to-do" list to help me make small, but steady strides toward my end result instead of looking at it in a yearly perspective. If I work each week on what I want, I will get there. And so will you!

I wish you all the best this year and I look forward to enjoying more poetry, music, and life with you!
